MENTIONING the name Wayne Rooney does not only send shivers down opponents' spines in England, but across the globe.

Rooney, who is also known as "White Pele", is in devastating form and English football fans and national coach Fabio Capello will bank on him to steer them to 2010 Fifa World Cup glory in South Africa.

The talented forward is recovering from an injury but he should be ready for the tournament that kicks off on June 11.

Rooney began his career at Everton, joining their youth team at the age of 10 and rising through the ranks.

He made his professional debut in 2002 and his first goal made him the youngest goalscorer in English Premier League history at the time.

Rooney made his England debut in 2003 and at Euro 2004 he briefly became the competition's youngest goal-scorer.

He also featured in the 2006 Fifa World Cup.
