Well worth the wait

THE past 10 years have been interesting in the cross-over or small SUV segment of the motor industry.

THE past 10 years have been interesting in the cross-over or small SUV segment of the motor industry.

Every car manufacturer wanted a stake in this segment. We have seen the VW Touran, the now discontinued Ford Territory and the Renault Koleos.

Only Peugeot has waited this long to introduce their jewel.

This year saw the introduction of the Peugeot 3008, an unexpected creation from the French carmaker. By unexpected I mean that the 3008 was an underdog, but now many have come to realise that it is better than they expected.

A direct competitor of the Nissan Qashqai, the Peugeot 3008 possesses the beauty of a French girl and the charm of a Frenchman.

Its soft yet aggressive appearance cannot be ignored. It is clear why Peugeot waited so long to enter this lucrative segment. They were perfecting their vehicle so it would stand all the tests.

Our test model, the 1,6 THP Executive, is fitted with many a convenience and safety feature. It comes equipped with all the latest technological features found in more premium brands, such as a refrigerator storage compartment and panaronic roof. In addition it is equipped with head up display (HUD), an automatic electric parking brake and hill assist (and USB-Bluetooth connectivity.

Standard features include anti-lock brakes with EBD and EBA and Electronic Stability Programme with traction control

We have been living with the Peugeot for a month now and it has so far proved to be a good, reliable car. This car is magic on the road in terms of handling and other road manners.

It gives what you expect from a car of this magnitude. I am not lying when I say I really like it. The 3008 has given me every reason to like it. It fits in everywhere. You can take it to a girls' party, to a wedding and, of course, to a boys' party too.

By blending the best attributes of the most popular contemporary market segments into one vehicle concept, the Peugeot 3008 is a true crossover in every respect. It opens up new motoring horizons and it will appeal to buyers on both an emotive and a rational level.

The 3008's SUV-inspired elements are obvious and evoke a strong sense of adventure linked to attributes such as functional convenience and ease of use.

These elements include a split tailgate, a raised stance with associated elevated driving position and short overhangs.

This Peugeot boasts all the comfort, refinement, road holding, performance, efficiency and luxury one would expect from an upmarket five-door hatchback.

Every aspect of the Peugeot 3008 is designed to offer an accessible and intelligent load space that can be adapted for a plethora of leisure activities and applications.

The load space is easily accessible, thanks to a tailgate that is divided into two parts.
