SESHEGO might not host the 2010 World Cup but will receive the honour of hosting the second annual Sasol League National Championships.
Nine provincial winners will participate in these championships from May 17 to 23, which Safa will also use to create awareness of the World Cup.
Speaking at the launch of the championships in Johannesburg yesterday, Safa competitions manager Balebetse Monnakgotla said they were geared up for an exciting tournament.
"We expect it to be a roaring success. We staged the inaugural championships in Cape Town in August to be part of women's month celebrations. With the World Cup in June and July, we thought it would be a great idea to have the championships in May."
Safa women's committee convener Nomsa Mahlangu commended Sasol for contributing to the development of women's soccer.
"The league is helping us to produce quality players. It is good that there is a platform for our youngsters to play regularly."
Andriesa Singleton, sponsorship manager of the sponsors' group, said they were just as excited at the prospect of witnessing top-drawer soccer in Seshego.
