FOLLOWING THE SUNLIGHT

WHY does a sunflower always face the sun?

WHY does a sunflower always face the sun?

Sunflowers wake up facing the east and then follow the sun.

This is known as phototropic movement caused by the presence of the hormone auxin.

When the tip of a sunflower stem receives unilateral light, the concentration of auxin increases in the shaded area.

This causes that portion to grow faster and the flower to move. - indianchild.com
