Biker dies in crash

MELBOURNE - Former world No 2 motocross rider Andrew McFarlane died yesterday after crashing during a practice lap at an Australian national championship meeting in Victoria State.

MELBOURNE - Former world No 2 motocross rider Andrew McFarlane died yesterday after crashing during a practice lap at an Australian national championship meeting in Victoria State.

Motorcycling Australia confirmed McFarlane's death. Local police also said they were investigating the incident.

McFarlane, 33, was flung from his bike at the State Motorcycle Sports Complex during the third round of the MX National Motocross championships. He died at the scene. Paramedic John Mullen said paramedics at the track worked on him for more than an hour but were unable to revive him. McFarlane had been world No 2 since 2005. - Sapa-AP
