AUTHORS have joined the Voice Behind Bafana Bafana.
The campaign urges South Africans to back Bafana Bafana by sending messages of support.
The campaign is run by telecoms giant Vodacom and leading media company Avusa.
The messages will appear in Avusa's six major newspapers: Sowetan, The Times, The Herald, Dispatch, Sunday World and Sunday Times.
The aim is to collect 10 million SMSes to qualify for entry into the Guinness Book of Records.
Award-winning writer and poet Liesl Jobson wrote a rhyme for the team: "More swift to your kick, more muscle to your hip, more fuel to your feet, more shine to your cleats, more grace to your step, more power to your neck, more sharp to your eye, more shoot to your high, more strength to your ankle, more super slick fandango."
Mtutuzeli Matshoba, author of Call Me Not A Man, and also involved in the creation and writing of television productions such as Soweto, The History, Yizo Yizo, Stokvel, Scoop Scoombie, and Zero Tolerance said: "If they put their hearts to it they will surprise all those who doubt them."
Poet and author of Strange Fruit Helen Moffett said: "Transform yourselves. Be heroes off and on the field. Treasure your women and children and that way we all win."
Thando Mgqolozana, the author of A Man Who Is Not A Man, said: "Kick ball! That's what they need to be doing. We hope they have it in their hearts and minds to know that we are behind them. We wish them the best of luck. I hope they pass the group stages."
