A WITNESS yesterday told the Roodepoort magistrate's court that Thulani Ndlovu tried to run away after former Orlando Pirates player Mandla Sithole had stabbed him but fell a few metres away.
"He was covering the wound on his chest with one hand," said Mpho Mngadi. He said Sithole stabbed Ndlovu, 31, once in the left side of his chest.
Sithole, 46, is accused of stabbing Ndlovu of Dobsonville, Soweto, to death on May 24 after he failed to pay him back the R100 he allegedly owed him.
When Ndlovu told him he did not have the money, Sithole allegedly grabbed him by the neck, took out a knife and stabbed him in the chest. Mngadi told the court that Ndlovu had begged Sithole not to hurt him.
"He said, 'Please don't do this. I will give you your money'," Mngadi testified.
Sithole's lawyer, Jurg Hysseman, said his client would tell the court that he found the knife in Ndlovu's car and that Ndlovu cut himself when he tried to snatch it during the scuffle that ensued. Sithole's R5000 bail was extended.
The trial continues.
