NAMING Carlos Alberto Parreira's replacement before the kickoff of the World Cup on June 11 could affect the national squad psychologically, but the move could still be good for the players and the country.

These are the views of several coaches who spoke to Sowetan yesterday after Safa vice-president Mandla "Shoes" Mazibuko announced last week that the mother body will name a local coach as Parreira's replacement before the Cup kickoff.

Though Safa is loath to reveal the new coach's identity, current Bafana Bafana assistant coach Pitso Mosimane and three-time championship-winning SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt are front-runners.

Mamelodi Sundowns technical adviser Ted Dumitru backs the idea of announcing a new coach after the World Cup. "We don't know how the players will react," he said.

The veteran tactician also believes Parreira should be retained as a technical adviser.

Platinum Stars coach Steve Komphela said: "The football fraternity already knows we will have a new coach."

Orlando Pirates development head Augusto Palacios said it would be unethical to announce a new coach while Parreira is still in charge .
