Woman crushed to death by truck

A NEIGHBOUR of a 54-year-old woman has blamed underdevelopment as the cause of her death.

A NEIGHBOUR of a 54-year-old woman has blamed underdevelopment as the cause of her death.

Khishiwe Anna Nkosi of the Mangosuthu area in Paulpietersburg died on Wednesday afternoon when a water tanker supplying residents with water incidentally ran over her.

She was killed instantly.

Nkosi leaves behind her unemployed husband, four unemployed children and five grandchildren.

Her neighbour, Nelly Mpungose, said Nkosi's death was tragic but could have been avoided had there been proper development in the area.

The eDumbe area, where the woman died, also saw three young boys die from inhaling generator gas while watching Bafana Bafana playing against Paraguay early this month.

"If only if we had running water she would still be alive today," Mpungose said.

She said Nkosi was among many women who had gathered to get water from the tanker.

"She was waiting behind the truck to get water when it incidentally ran over her. She died a horrible death," Mpungose said.

Meanwhile, in a seperate incident, a 59-year-old woman, Dumisile Mbatha of the eMbizeni area, also in eDumbe, was killed when she fell from the tractor trailer she was riding on.

Mbatha was employed by the eDumbe municipality as a general worker.

One of the employees said Mbatha fell from the trailer, hit the ground head first and died instantly.
