SECURITY guards who worked at Hlanganani Protection Services are up in arms after the company "failed to pay them accrued benefits".

SECURITY guards who worked at Hlanganani Protection Services are up in arms after the company "failed to pay them accrued benefits".

This happened after more than 200 security guards were retrenched by the company based in Langlaagte, Johannesburg.

The guards said yesterday that the company was refusing to pay them bonuses, leave pay and service pay promised to them when they started working.

They also complained about the conflicting letters given to them about the reasons fortheir retrenchment.

The guards said they were laid off after Hlanganani lost the contract with Metrorail.

One of the guards, Given Mogane, said management claimed the company had not been paid by Metrorail.

"We were promised to get paid on April 20 but now they say we must come back on Friday," he said

He said they also wanted clarification on whether they had been fired, retrenched or whether their contracts had expired.

On Tuesday the retrenched guards clashed with those on duty after they demanded to see management.

The guards also complained that the first aid certificates for a course that they were compelled to do by the company were allegedly fake.

Chief executive Jason Mlaudzi said: "I don't comment for you right now. We can talk after everything has been sorted out."
