Bulls need bonus point win

ACCORDING to the record books the last time the Bulls lost a Super 14 match at their beloved Loftus Versfeld was back in 2008 when thumped 22-50 by the Hurricanes.

Since then they have strung together 13 consecutive wins at "Fort Loftus"... a record they will want to keep intact when taking on the winless Lions on Saturday afternoon.

The 12-19 loss to the Reds last Saturday at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, may just be the wake-up call they needed as the race for semifinal spots hots up.

"It doesn't matter who we are playing, we stay focused on the job. Whether it be the Stormers or Blues we prepare the same," captain Victor Matfield said yesterday. "All the structures are in place and we just tweak where needed. It's all about keeping the momentum."

With the top two teams of the competition having home semifinals, every log point is crucial and with just four points separating log leaders the Crusaders, Bulls, Stormers and Reds, the Pretoria side knows the importance of scoring four tries and banking a bonus point.

A surprise to the starting XV for Saturday in the team announced yesterday, is the dropping of Fourie du Preez to the bench and Heini Adams getting a run on in the No 9 jersey.

"The only reason is Fourie has a shoulder injury and we obviously have to manage him properly," Bulls coach Frans Ludeke explained.

For the Lions, the match is about saving face. Kickoff is at 3pm.
