Comrades to boost Bafana

FORMER Bafana Bafana dribbling wizard Helman "Midnight Express" Mkhalele will use the Comrades Marathon on May 30 to create awareness of Bafana Bafana.

FORMER Bafana Bafana dribbling wizard Helman "Midnight Express" Mkhalele will use the Comrades Marathon on May 30 to create awareness of Bafana Bafana.

This will be Mkhalele's first appearance in the celebrated "Ultimate Race", which attracts runners from as far afield as Russia, Zimbabwe, Germany and Namibia.

Mkhalele is one of the celebrities who will be part of the more than 20000 people who will line-up in this year's race, which is taking place in May to avoid clashing with the World Cup games.

"I will be wearing the Bafana Bafana jersey on the day of the marathon in support of our senior national team ahead of the World Cup," said Mkhalele.

"I have been training hard and I'm determined to complete the marathon.

"We need to support the team so that they can go all the way in the tournament," said Mkhalele, who has represented Bafana Bafana 66 times.

Mkhalele, who has also played for Jomo Cosmos and Orlando Pirates, will compete in the ultra marathon to raise funds for Pink Drive Cancer charity organisation.

Other celebrities who will participate in this year's marathon include singer Kabelo Mabalane, radio and television presenters Redi "Hello Everybody" Direko and Koena Moabelo. - Sports reporter
