THE great Caiphus Semenya and Thandiswa Mazwai will perform at Carnival City in Brakpan on Saturday.
They will shoot live DVDs separately at the Big Top Arena in Gauteng. Afro-pop star Theo Kgosinkwe will get the ball rolling with his well-known energetic stage performance.
Supported by her talented band, Mazwai will give fans the vibrant and fresh young sound that has made a name for her. She will mesmerise her fans with traditional Xhosa hymns, upbeat mbaqanga and a touch of reggae.
Mazwai, who is also a member of award-winning group Bongo Maffin, is fast carving a place for herself in the music industry. Her albums Zabalaza and Ibokwe arevery popular and her many awards are proof that she is indeed very talented.
Mazwai was named Best African Female at the 2004 Kora awards and walked away with Best Female Artist and Best African Contemporary Album at the Sama's in 2005.
Semenya is one of South Africa's top composers and his credits include the music scores for the SABC series Molo Fish .
Having gone into exile in the 1960s with his singer wife Letta Mbuli, Semenya worked with Hugh Masekela, Jonas Gwangwa and Miriam Makeba among others.
Semenya's compositions were performed by music greats such as Harry Belafonte, the Crusaders, Lou Rawls, Nina Simone and Quincy's Jones.
