Tira's thank you speech bruises egos

AFRO-ATTAINMENT boss DJ Tira's thank you speech at the Samas on Saturday night has left a few egos bruised.

On Saturday night DJ Tira thanked Ukhozi FM and repeatedly sang its praises on the Vuka Mzansi breakfast show hosted by Linda "Mr Magic" Sibiya.

Other radio stations were disappointed by this. People at Igagasi 99.5 FM claimed they had made a huge contribution to the group's success.

DJ Tira repeatedly thanked Sibiya and Ukhozi FM for their success when Big Nuz won Best Kwaito Album, Album of the Year and Record of the Year awards.

Also among the people DJ Tira thanked were Police Commissioner General Bheki Cele and KwaZulu-Natal MEC for arts sports and recreation Weziwe Thusi.

In a statement yesterday, Igagasi 99.5 FM said its statistics showed that they had played Big Nuz's songs as part of promoting the province's artists.

Igagasi's Mimi Kesaris said they did not play one group's music as a favour but because they had to support talented artists in the province.

Metro FM and local radio station Imbokodo FM also expressed their disappointment.

The station's manager, Sandile Ngema, said: "As a community radio station we played a role in making Big Nuz what it is by playing their music. We are very disappointed that Tira only mentioned one radio station."

Yesterday DJ Tira said he was sorry he did not acknowledge the other radio stations.

"I only mentioned Ukhozi and Linda Sibiya because they were involved in the Magic Tour Campaign during which Umlilo (a song on the album) became a huge success," he said.
