Majimbos call up trio for Namibia

MAJIMBOS coach Solly Luvhengo has roped in three new players for their 2011 African Under-17 Championships return qualifier against Namibia in Kimberley on April 24.

MAJIMBOS coach Solly Luvhengo has roped in three new players for their 2011 African Under-17 Championships return qualifier against Namibia in Kimberley on April 24.

They are Boitumelo Xaba, Sanele Khoza and Nthuthuko Khumalo.

Xaba and Khumalo play for Kaizer Chiefs' juniors while Khoza plays for Orlando Pirates' development side. They replaced Khumbulani Mkhize, Tshepo Liphoko and Simphiwe Mcando.

South Africa's Under-17 national side walloped Namibia 3-0 in their first- leg match in Windhoek last weekend where the Chiefs duo of Maselaelo Seanego (brace) and Thabani Mthembu scored.

"We have selected a formidable team," said team manager, Abram Ndawonde. "We have a match against the Northern Cape provincial side as part of the 2010 Fifa World Cup 50 days countdown celebrations on April 21."

Luvhengo, who is assisted by Transnet Football School of Excellence development coach Mandla Mazibuko, is adamant that Majimbos will qualify for the finals in Rwanda next year.

"They want to become the first crop of players to reach the World Under-17 Championships. We are the only men's national team that is still to qualify for a world tournament."
