12 people injured in several crashes

KWAZULU-NATAL Netcare Special Rescue had their hands full after separate road accidents needed their immediate response.

Seven people were left injured after a head-on collision between two bakkies on a gravel road in Karkloof, Howick, yesterday.

Three people were treated for serious neck and back injuries and the other four for minor lacerations.

All patients were stabilised on the scene and transported to hospitals in the Pietermaritzburg area.

Meanwhile, five people were seriously injured in two separate accidents on Wednesday night in Durban.

In the most serious, two cars collided on the M19 Pinetown bound carriageway near the Varsity Drive turn-off.

It is believed the bakkie carrying construction workers stopped near an informal settlement to drop the workers causing another vehicle to stop behind it.

Another vehicle travelling in the same direction did not stop in time to avoid the two stationary vehicles and collided with the second car.

Two construction workers and the drivers of the second car and his passenger were seriously injured after their vehicle was crumpled.
