Mhala police spokesperson Constable Robert Makhubela said Comfort Kubayi was shot once in the stomach after he attacked a police officer.
"Police had been searching for Kubayi and other susoects since Tuesday and found information that led them to his home.
Kubayi armed himself with a panga and knife when he heard the police were looking for him.
Kubayi was shot when he resisted arrest.
He died on arrival at the health centre.
