BLOEMFONTEIN-BASED radio station OFM has announced changes in its programming.

BLOEMFONTEIN-BASED radio station OFM has announced changes in its programming.

OFM, on 94 to 97 Megahertz, has made serious changes to its breakfast show. DJ Tim Thabethe will co-host The Breakfast Club with André Kunz, Leanne Nel and Liezl Liebenberg.

The Breakfast Club will serve up something new on weekdays from 6am to 9am.

After six years of doing mid-morning and afternoon shows on OFM, the popular Thabethe will take over the reins of the morning show from seasoned professionals Christie Hansen and Pieter Möller.

Tim Zunckel, OFM's programme manager, said: "The changes have been effected to continue providing unique, interesting and entertaining programming to our listeners.

"We are constantly looking at exciting and innovative ideas for our audience. With our listeners embracing new technologies and interacting with us on so many new platforms, the need to remain relevant is a major challenge."

Zunckel said he believed Thabethe and the new The Breakfast Clubteam will be able to attract new listeners to the station while retaining their trusted audience.

"Tim was the natural choice to replace Pieter and Christie, who will now both host their own weekday shows. Tim is not only passionate about the region but has the ability to provoke thought and laughter in the same sentence.

"His fresh approach will be the perfect start to our listeners' day. We are confident our listeners will love the new programme."

Thabethe said: "It's an honour that comes with responsibility. I'm following in the footsteps of seasoned professionals like Manie Kitching, Pieter du Bois, Christie Hansens and Pieter Möllers.

"It feels a bit like standing in the shadow of these Goliaths, but the new plans going forward are truly exciting. I intend to give our listeners something different and very exciting.

"I would like to honour those who came before me by continuing the legacy they left behind while still fulfilling the needs of our loyal and new listeners."

The programme manager also confirmed that the contracts of presenters Paul Freathy, Kobus Kolver and traffic presenter Meloni Munro were not renewed.

Pieter Möller will take over from James Kilbourn as presenter of Before Dawn from 5am to 6am on weekdays. Kilbourn will do the Gold Retold show from 9am to 1pm on Sundays. Marian Nyako-Lartey will take over from Kobus Kolver as presenter of Beyond Midnight from 1am to 5am on weekdays and on Saturdays and Sundays from 1am to 6am.
