The Zimbabwean, who was lent to AmaZayoni by Orlando Pirates last season, has failed to impress at Aces, where he managed only one goal throughout the season.
He scored in their 5-1 defeat by SuperSport United in the Telkom Knockout.
"Gilbert failed to live up to expectations and the coach told him on Monday to no longer train with the team," said a highly placed source at Aces, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
"He has just recovered from an injury and he was looking forward to returning to training this week but he was told not to bother. He wanted to be part of the team for the Nedbank Cup and was also hoping that Aces would extend his stay for next season."
Though Mushangazhike's stay in Witbank was blighted by injuries, he disappointed in front of goal when given a chance to play.
The striker yesterday dismissed the claims that he was asked to pack his bags and leave the club.
"Whoever told you this is lying," he said.
Marc Grune, Aces chief executive, said he was not aware that Mushangazhike was told to stop training with the team.
Asked if they were keen to engage Pirates to keep the striker in Witbank for a further season, Grune said it would be difficult for him to comment about the future of individual players "because we are still going to discuss this with the rest of the management and technical staff".
But the arrival of Black Leopards striker Lithola Mofokeng could be the reason why Aces decided to allow Mushangazhike to return to the Buccaneers.
Mofokeng has signed a three-season deal with Aces.
AmaZayoni are also holding talks with Sandile Zuke's agent with a view to offering the talented central midfielder a new contract.
Zuke, who had a great season at Aces, joined AmaZayoni from Kaizer Chiefs on loan last term but, according to Grune, his contract at Amakhosi has expired.
Striker Darrel Smith, who was loaned out by Bloemfontein Celtic, is likely not to be retained.
Other players who are believed to be on their way out include Jacob "Dukes" Machaka, Oscar Ramogoadi and Teboho Mokoena.
