Student protests continue

STUDENTS at the University of KwaZulu-Natal have continued with their protest, moving to Howard campus yesterday.

STUDENTS at the University of KwaZulu-Natal have continued with their protest, moving to Howard campus yesterday.

Hundreds of students, in the second day of protests, gathered at the Shepstone building where they were updated by student leaders about the ongoing talks between the SRC and management.

The students marched peacefully within the university grounds under the close watch of campus security guards.

UKZN SRC president Thanduxolo Sabelo said the strike was a continuation of what started at Edgewood campus on Monday. He assured students that talks between the SRC and management at Edgewood had produced fruitful results.

Sabelo also told the students that if management at Howard failed to address their grievances, the Pietermaritzburg and Westville campuses would today also join the strike.

The students' grievances include financial backing for those from poor backgrounds and the high food prices at their cafeterias.
