Their spokesperson, Sam Mlangeni, said they fully supported the decision of James Evans and Hendrick Ramaala who have resigned from the interim board.
"We as athletes strongly object to the decision taken by the ASA general assembly and ASA administrator (Ray Mali) to allow the interim board to continue running the sport," Mlangeni said.
He said they were also angry with the IAAF's decision to endorse the postponement "without proper and meaningful consultations with stakeholders".
"As athletes, we therefore cannot and do not recognise the legality or the legitimacy of the current so-called interim board. In this context, any decisions arrived at by the so-called board lack legitimacy and have no legal standing," Mlangeni said.
"We demand that the current administration and interim board call a council meeting with all stakeholders by the end of May, to decide on a date for proper elections and when the current administration will leave ASA office.
"Furthermore, we believe that the growth and development of athletics is suffering under the so-called interim board and ASA administrator.
"We are also aware about their systems to divide us and won't allow it to happen. We have lost confidence in this process and we strongly feel undermined.
"Athletes have not been paid their prizes since January 2010."
Mali has maintained that the decision to postpone the elections indefinitely was taken by a legitimate body.
