The most serious accident happened at 9.30pm on Saturday when the driver of a bakkie lost control of his vehicle and overturned, killing six, said Arrive Alive spokesperson Tshepo Machaea.
"It is alleged that the driver was avoiding a dog that was on the road and the vehicle lost control and overturned," said Machaea.
The accident happened on the R63 near Alice.
"Five died on the scene and the sixth died on arrival at hospital," Machaea said.
Another six are seriously injured, including the driver. All the injured and dead are believed to be Fort Hare University students.
This accident was preceded by another earlier, in the afternoon when a Toyota Quantum and Toyota Siyaya collided head-on on the R394 near Ford Donald.
Three people were killed in the accident and another 25 were injured. The cause of the minibus accident is not known.
The first accident of the day happened in the morning on the R61 between Craddock and Graaff-Reinet.
