PENNY Lebyane, aka The Phly One, is still fuming, days after she was shafted by Metro FM.
Lebyane, who co-hosted the noon to 3pm Reality Show with Leko Ngcobo, said she did not understand why she was taken off the popular slot.
And she said she would not take up the graveyard shift she had been offered on Saturdays.
She was dropped when the new Metro FM lineup was announced on April 1.
A statement issued by SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said Lebyane "will now play another instrumental role behind the scenes".
Kganyago added that Lebyane, along with Refiloe Mpakanyane, will be helping Metro FM to further build its edge, with a new format for a lifestyle show.
The show will include regular commentary, reports and inserts that will bring new energy to Metro FM's programming in the near future.
Station manager Matona Sakupwanya said: "We would like to assure our listeners and advertisers of the consistency with the on-air personalities that they have come to be accustomed to and love, and Metro FM will continue to be Where It's At."
Lebyane, whose contract ends next year, told Sowetan that she was surprised when told that the format of the show was not working.
"This did not make sense to me because when I asked what the new format was no one explained it to me.
"Nothing was said to me throughout the year and all management could say was the show did not exist anymore. There was no valid reason."
Lebyane said she had been axed because of personality clashes but "my relationship with the SABC was bigger than that".
"I did the show to the best of my ability. I'm not bitter. I cannot afford to be bitter over personality issues. If something comes up on radio, I will look at it. I wish the show well."
Lebyane said the graveyard shift would not work "because I am a mother".
But she will do the lifestyle programmes.
"I will only do lifestyle for the whole station and there is no way that I can work at night. I am a mother."
Lebyane recently joined SABC2's signature women's show Motswako and she was getting good reviews.
Sakupwanya declined to comment further yesterday. She told Sowetan that she was in a meeting.
