The fight against crime was given a major boost in Randburg when South African petroleum giant Sasol handed a cheque for R80000 to the local police station.

The fight against crime was given a major boost in Randburg when South African petroleum giant Sasol handed a cheque for R80000 to the local police station.

The money is meant to help the Randburg community policing forum to employ a part-time assistant to manage communication channels to ensure priority projects are rolled out to the community on schedule.

"The CPFs are widely regarded as the cornerstone of crime-fighting mechanisms across communities. In the past CPFs have been responsible for improving the understanding and relationships between the community and police. This investment will allow that encouraging trend to continue," said Sasol managing director Maurice Radebe.

Randburg station commander Director Lettie Hugo said: "This donation will help ensure our CPF can start operating like a well-oiled machine." Members of the CPFs are all voluntary workers.
