Just when the clouds had lifted and he was matched with a young and inexperienced cub like Flo "Demolition Man" Simba at Emperors Palace on Monday night, Ndzamela scurried home, leaving his manager behind, just before the fight.
A win against Simba, who has hogged headlines since he made his professional debut on October 31 last year, could have turned Ndzamela's career around. But that is over.
His disappearing act could hasten his retirement. Loyiso Mtya, Boxing SA's acting chief executive, confirmed yesterday that he had written to Boxing SA's board, suggesting that Ndzamela's licence be revoked.
Part of his leaked letter reads: "There is no burden of proof to contest. A decision just has to be made on whether to suspend the boxer for a specific period or revoke his licence."
A highly placed source said one of the four members of the Boxing SA board, Sakhiwo Sodo, was in favour of revoking Ndzamela's licence, in a lesson to licensees to take the sport seriously. The fight was to be staged by promoters Jeff Ellis and Rodney Berman.
l Bully "Bulldog" Muravha has recovered. He did not suffer severe damage in his failed bid to oust long-reigning SA heavyweight ruler Osborne "Big Daddy" Machimana last month.
Muravha turned his back in the eighth round of a fight he seemed to be winning. Boxing SA suspended him for 120 days.
