BUS commuters were left stranded in Pretoria yesterday when Putco buses failed to arrive because of a strike by drivers.
This was despite most bus drivers making a deal with employers on Monday to avert a national strike.
"There were zero operations in Soshanguve and other areas because a third union, the Transport and Allied Workers Union of South Africa, did not sign a wage agreement," Putco spokesperson Raphiri Matsaneng said.
"There were reported incidents of intimidation . but we expect a normal service tomorrow."
In Western Cape a strike by Metrorail workers had no apparent effect on services, according to Metrorail spokesperson Riana Scott.
"It's a perfectly normal day," she said.
"There's been no problem whatsoever."
But SA Transport and Allied Workers Union provincial secretary Evan Abrahamse said though trains were running, revenue collection was affected because "access controllers had downed tools", resulting in people travelling without tickets.
