A DISGRUNTLED Limpopo woman, who was classified as Namibian by the Department of Home Affairs about 20 years ago, fears she might be deported to that country.

Sepetse Victoria Maake of Makgabeng village in GaSekgopo, outside Modjadjiskloof, says she is afraid she might find herself in a foreign country because of the mistake made by the department's officials.

Maake, 46, says she is also afraid that even if she is not deported to that country until she is older, she might not be able to get any government grant.

The mother of four children, who works on a farm near Modjadjiskloof, says her current employers have no problem with her citizenship.

Maake says her ordeal started in 1990 when she changed her identity document from the old apartheid dompas to the new South African identity document.

She said when she got her new ID she realised that her citizenship was incorrectly recorded.

"I went to a local police station to make an affidavit, which was to accompany a new ID application I had made to rectify the mistake," Maake says.

She says she is disillusioned and does not know what to do because she is stuck with an old dompas and two IDs classifying her as a Namibian citizen.

She appeals to the department in the province to intervene and correct the mistake.

Attempts to get comment from provincial home affairs department spokesperson Sam Moremi or local manager Eddy Maphosa were unsuccessful at the time of going to press.
