But still the Blue Bulls notched up their sixth win in as many games.

For a change flyhalf scoring-machine Morne Steyn left his kicking boots at home and managed to only slot five from nine shots at goal.

In contrast Western Force centre James O'Connor could do no wrong with the boot and had his side going in to the halftime break 12-10 up thanks to four penalty goals.

Another O'Connor penalty to open the second half and Bulls were looking decidely vulnerable as the Force extended their lead to 15-10.

Bulls, though, are not top of the log for nothing and keeping their composure they launched wave after wave of attack until eventually Steyn slid through the slimmest of gaps to touch down.

Back in the lead Bulls looked more comfortable and with Zane Kutchener playing a blinder from fullback and prop Guthro Steenkamp rampaging around the field like an incensed rhino, Bulls managed to take control of the game and strangle the opposition of possession.

Another to catch the eye for Bulls was the athletic Pierre Spies - who may be back to his best.

The Force remain rooted to the bottom of the log but judging by their gutsy performance a win cannot be far away.

Meanwhile on Saturday morning Sharks picked up their second away win beating Hurricanes 29-26 in Wellington.

With 10 minutes to go, Sharks looked to have the game in the bag before a late try by Hurricanes flanker Victor Vito to level the scores.

An injury-time penalty from the halfway line by scrum half Ruan Pienaar was enough to get the visitors home by the squeakiest of margins ... but a win nonetheless.
