AFTER losing out to Ajax Cape Town in the final last season, Orlando Pirates are adamant the Telkom Knockout title will not slip out of their hands this time round.

Pirates beat Jomo Cosmos 2-1 at Rand Stadium on Saturday.

Striker Ndumiso "Simply The Best" Mabena, a former Cosmos player, and Dikgang Mabalane, scored for Pirates, with Thapelo Tshilo netting for Ezenkosi.

Following this hard-fought slender victory, Pirates have qualified for the semifinals of this tournament for the second successive year.

In the same tournament last year, Pirates were defeated in the final by Ajax Cape Town.

"It was a tough match, we knew Cosmos were going to come like a ton of bricks on us," Mabena said.

"Cosmos had nothing to lose after being relegated. We played as a unit and it's good that we are now beginning of score goals, which is what has been lacking.

"After failing to win the championship title, we are now eyeing the Telkom Knockout title for the supporters.

"The most important thing is consistency, especially in the scoring of goals."

Dutch legend Ruud Krol whose future at the club is hanging in the balance after their poor showing in the league has denied to be under pressure after failing dismally to win the league.

"We are happy with the win, it's a deserved one. I'm not under pressure, it's only in the media," he said.

Led by the in-form Isaac Chansa, Pirates dominated in the early stages.

However, Ezenkosi bounced back late in the second half, forcing goalie Senzo Meyiwa to work over time.
