PUBLIC Protector Thulisile Madonsela has made a commitment to the people of Limpopo that her office will work tirelessly to make a difference in their lives.

Madonsela made this vow in Polokwane yesterday as part of her nationwide tour to introduce herself to stakeholders and to get their views on the constitutional mandate of her office.

Before her visit to Polokwane, Madonsela was in Bungeni village in the Vhembe district earlier yesterday, where she heard complaints involving allegations that the government was failing to provide basic services.

Acknowledging that her office had a mammoth task, Madonsela said: "Among the serious matters I always encounter are either delays or denials of services to the people.

"Such matters include applications for social grants, identity documents, government employee pension funds and standard pension benefits.

"Incidentally, the issue of pensions from the former TBVC states concerns me deeply and I have decided to go for a systematic intervention."

Madonsela has also declared war on several challenges her office had been grappling with.

Among these are the accessibility of her office to communities, improvement of the turnaround time in investigating complaints, and balancing attention between high-profile matters and those of ordinary people.

Lehlogonolo Masoga, chairperson of the standing committee on public accounts in the Limpopo legislature, said the province would work with Madonsela's office to serve the communities.
