Final journey for Chele

NTATE Esau Tsietsi John Chele, a former radio broadcaster, died on March 18, aged 91.

NTATE Esau Tsietsi John Chele, a former radio broadcaster, died on March 18, aged 91.

He was born on May 15 1919 in Potchefstroom, the son of the late Motshwaneng and Emily Matsietsi Chele.

He was married to Elizabeth Mahlatsi and they had seven children.

He trained as a teacher at Stofberg Teachers' Training College and taught at Matsiestein School in Sharpeville, and was later appointed principal.

He joined the then Radio Bantu, now known as Lesedi FM, as broadcaster..

After leaving Radio Bantu he became an information officer for a number of years and travelled all over the country.

In the early 1970s, he was an MP for the Dikwankwetla Party and was a councillor for the Walkerville, De Deur, municipality and was also elected a deputy mayor.

Chele will be buried tomorrow. The funeral service will be held at the Lebohang Uniting Reformed Church, Zone 14 Sebokeng, at 9.30am.
