WEIGHT loss authority Tony Ferguson has nine tips to help any South African lose weight:
l Ask yourself while you are eating outside of meal times: "Am I still hungry?" You'd be surprised how often the answer is no!
l Have protein with every meal. Protein keeps hunger away longer.
l Don't party two days in a row. The day after a party binge is "payback day" where you either exercise yesterday's binge away or your food intake is predominantly lean protein and green vegetables.
l Learn to live without products made from white flour (biscuits and cakes) because you're only putting unwanted sugars in your body.
l Try to limit alcohol intake. If you are going to drink beer, have low kilojoule beer. Even better, enjoy red wine in moderation because it's full of antioxidants.
l If you feel you must have sweets or pastries, try fruit salads with low fat custards/ice cream or raisin toast topped with low-fat ricotta cinnamon and grated apple instead.
l Remember portion control. Restaurants often serve large mains, so sharing is fine.
l In the early stages of trying to overcome over indulgence, it's better to have too many healthier options than fatty snacks.
l Drink two litres of water per day.
