KwaZulu-Natal has secured several ground-breaking economic and collaborative 2010 opportunities with Australia.

Premier Zweli Mkhize said yesterday he had a series of meetings with key stakeholders both in government and in the private sector in Australia.

Mkhize is leading a delegation made up of MEC for Economic Development, Mike Mabuyakhulu, and MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Lydia Johnson.

On meeting Ian Fletcher, the Director General of Queensland Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation, Mkhize said: "We agreed that the two regions will twin up and develop marketing packages aimed at marketing the two regions.

"KwaZulu-Natal will be marketed in Australia as the home for Australians who want to visit the province for business and leisure purposes, especially during the 2010 World Cup," Mkhize said.

It was also agreed that Queensland will be marketed to KwaZulu-Natal as a preferred destination for the people of the province who want to visit Australia for business and leisure.

Queensland and KwaZulu-Natal will work together to speed up socio-economic development in both regions.

During a visit to the Southbank Institute of Technology, it was agreed that KwaZulu-Natal training-based institutions will twin with SBIT to improve curricula and share experiences and expertise in areas such as information, communication and technology training.
