FIFA'S local organising committee is delivering on its promise of giving out two tickets to all construction workers who built the 2010 World Cup stadiums.
The LOC announced yesterday that 27000 construction workers would each be presented with double tickets - meaning 54000 tickets - for them to watch the soccerspectacle.
The windfall for the workers, who built and upgraded all the 10 World Cup stadiums, was confirmed in Sandton yesterday where Visa gave away 5000 tickets to South Africans.
LOC chief executive officer Danny Jordaan and World Cup mascot Zakumi were on hand for the announcement by Visa, one of the Fifa officialpartners.
The tickets will be given to South Africans working in the hospitality and tourism sector, through its financial literacy road show programme.
All the Fifa partners have been allocated a portion of the World Cup tickets, with Adidas getting 15000, Coca-Cola 20000, Sony 15000, Hyundai 7000 and KIA 4000.
Fifa said each partner had initiated their own ticket fund programmes through which they would identify recipients of the tickets that would be used as incentives forparticipation.
Fifa added that the aim of this project was to support South Africans who cannot afford to buytickets.
