schultz back in the ring

WILL Michael Schultz come back from East London?

WILL Michael Schultz come back from East London?

The heavily tattooed fighter from the south of Johannesburg makes a comeback on Friday night in East London against Goodman Dywili, a 2008 Baby Champs titleholder rated No 7 in the super middleweight division.

Their six- rounder will form part of the eight-bout programme of Branco Sports Productions at the International Convention Centre.

Schultz last fought on November 20 at Gauteng's Wembley Arena when he was knocked out in the first round by Zimbabwean Tineyi Maridzo for the World Boxing Organisation Africa super middleweight title.

The punch seemed to have landed behind the ear (a rabbit punch) and that area is sensitive. Schultz tried to get up but his balance was gone.

His trainer Nick Durandt chose to focus on the future rather than to cry over spilt milk.

"S**t happens," he said straight up yesterday. "But we did not even go back to the drawing board after the defeat because it was a lucky punch.

"We were ready to win the title. Mikey wants a rematch more than fresh air."

Durandt said he knew what to expect from Dywili.

"He comes to fight and that is exactly what I want for Schultz because this is part of our preparations for the rematch. So yes, Mikey will come back more than alive," he said. According to BoxRec, Dywili has only one win from one fight. Schultz's defeat to Maridzo was his first against two wins (both KOs) since his comeback in September.

Previously Schultz chalked up 14 wins and two draws.

Durandt' s other fighter, Lesley Sejkotswe, who holds the African Boxing Union super flyweight title, will be in action over six rounds against Simona Mbande.

Meanwhile, Milenkovic announced that Earl Morton from the US will be the referee for the International Boxing Federation mini flyweight title fight between champion Raul Garcia of Mexico and No 1 contender Nkosinathi Joyi.

The judges are Alfredo Polanco (Mexico), Wally Snowball and Isaac Tshabalala (both SA), while Louis Priluker (US) will be the fight supervisor.
