MEMBERS of the Limpopo mining communities that were relocated by Anglo Platinum in 2007 are pinning their hopes of having their issues dealt with by a task team endorsed by Mineral Resources Minister Susan Shabangu.

The fate of the 300000 people from the 18 communities in Mogalakwena municipality has been placed in the hands of the task team made up of representatives from the Departments of Mining, Rural Development and Land Reform.

In 1998, Anglo Platinum consulted the communities about the mine's expansion and possible need for resettlement, so the mine could gain access to the ore body, secure land for mining infrastructure and prevent safety and environmental impacts from affecting the community.

The mining company claims to have already spent close to R800million on the project. - Kea' Modimoeng
