IT'S an amazing lineup for what promises to be the mother of all parties on the eve of the kickoff of the highly anticipated Fifa World Cup in June.

The first Fifa World Cup Kickoff Celebration Concert on June 10 will feature performances by major international musicians and African artists, as well as appearances by football legends past and present and celebrities from other fields.

The historic gig will take place in front of a capacity crowd at the newly rebuilt 30000-seater Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

Superstars Angelique Kidjo, Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas, Vusi Mahlasela, John Legend, Shakira, the Parlotones, Amadou and Mariam, Juanes, Tinariwen, Vieux Farka Touré and local rock band BLK JKS, among others, will perform in the concert that starts at 8pm on the eve of the World Cup spectacle.

The musical razzmatazz is expected to draw a varied crowd from all corners of the world to sample our hospitality.

Parlotones lead singer Kahn Morbee said yesterday: "We are excited to be part of the biggest sporting event in South Africa. It will also be great to share the stage with some of the biggest artists in the world, like Black Eyed Peas."

In a statement Fifa general secretary Jérôme Valcke said he was thrilled to have a concert of such magnitude performing on the first Fifa World Cup in Africa.

Former Bafana captain Lucas Radebe said: "Music and sport are the lifeblood of African culture, so to combine those in this historic event will be a true celebration of African culture."
