YOU can Shout - and fight crime at the same time.

Danny K and Kabelo Mabalane are using their star power and influence to combat crime. Their cover rendition of 80s' Tears for Fears hit Shout is their weapon of choice.

Deeply affected by the murder of Lucky Dube in 2007, Danny K vowed to stand up and be counted.

"I've had enough. I am a musician. I need to use what Lucky used and what I use, to make a difference - and that is music," Danny K said.

"It was then that fate played its part when I discovered that my good friend Kabelo was recording a version of Shout.

"A light bulb went off in my head and I said this (song) speaks of all the fears, grievances, frustration and pain that my fellow South Africans share."

Danny K and Mabalane picked up the phone, and for the next year, they contacted a host of South African musicians and celebrities to join them in the project.

"Everyone we phoned was truly inspired. We did not have to convince them - they just asked where we needed them to be," Danny K said.

"This campaign is about being part of the solution and not the problem," said Mabalane.

He stressed that it was not about apportioning blame to those who do or do not do their jobs to protect South Africa's citizens.

"We need to be part of the cure and not the disease," he said.

With artists such as Freshlyground, Lira, HHP, Hugh Masekela, Louise Carver, Loyiso, Kurt Darren, Gang of Instrumentals, Jamali, RJ Benjamin, MXO, Kwela Tebza, Skwatta Kamp, Gift Gwe and Yvonne Chaka Chaka on board, this project has solid backing.
