REIGNING world 800m champion Mbulaeni "Bullet" Mulaudzi will lead the Central Gauteng Athletics team to the Yellow Pages national championships in Durban on Saturday and Sunday.
Mulaudzi, the reigning CGA male athlete of the year, is tipped to successfully defend the national title he has been monopolising for the past five years.
Top women athletes in the team include Mpho Mabuza, Irvette van Blerk, Pulane Mosome, Rene Kalmer, Thandi Vilakazi and Nolene Conrad.
The other women in the team include Prisilla Kubu, Ohna Visser, Monique Maree, Nomsa Buthelezi and Mapaseka Makhanya, who is back in athletics after giving birth.
Besides Mulaudzi, the men's team has other experienced athletes like Tshamano Setone, Ruben Ramolefi, Thuso Phaswane, Isaac Mbuyase, Jeffrey Gwebu and Snyman Prinsloo.
"We have a team of 90 athletes going to Durban, our athletes will use the event to qualify for the Commonwealth Games in India," said CGA general manager Mandla Radebe.
Athletics South Africa interim board member Hendrick Ramaala said: "The championship in Durban is a great platform to also introduce some of the youngsters coming through the development ranks.
"It's a trend for the provincial structures to show us what it is that they have been doing to develop the sport. Sparks will definitely fly in Durban."
