AS ANY football coach will tell you, the job is not for the fainthearted.

AS ANY football coach will tell you, the job is not for the fainthearted.

And if you are a man coaching a woman's football team, as Solly Luvhengo is, the phrase our "similarities are different" takes on a whole new meaning.

He is officially the men's Under-20 head coach, but he has taken charge of the Under-17 national women's team.

Luvhengo is helping out while Safa looks for a permanent coach for the women's team.

Makgarebe will take on Botswana in Gaborone on Saturday at 2pm in an Under-17 Fifa World Cup qualifier.

The experience has been as challenging as it has been unique for him.

"What struck me the most was that their level of fitness - through no fault of their own - is not as high as that of the boys," he said yesterday.

"The girls do not have a regular and organised league structure like the boys do.

"A boy picks up a knock and that's all it is, but with girls you cannot push too hard.

"I had to adjust to all of that. Luckily, there is a capable and knowledgeable team assisting me and I'm learning."

Despite these teething problems, the business at hand has been dealt with. All that the girls need before they face Botswana is one or two extra sessions.

"Winning an away game is always very welcome, that way when the second leg comes around in two weeks' time, we won't have heaps of pressure on us," Luvhengo said.

l Banyana Banyana coach Augustine Makalakalane will on Saturday continue to share with Limpopo coaches his knowledge about the coaching of female players.

The clinic will take place at 9am prior to Sasol League matches between Brazilians and Re-Tladira at 1pm and Ma-Indies and Vunza at 3pm.

The clinic will take place at Hlogotlou Stadium in Monsterlus.
