The formation of safety committees will help curb violence such as stabbings, shootings and abuse in schools.
Education spokesperson Mbali Thusi said safety committees would comprise teachers, the police, parents, pupils and municipal councillors.
Details of how safety committees would operate would be announced by education MEC Senzo Mchunu at Dundee Secondary School tomorrow.
"The sad reality is that crime and violence are social evils that cannot be addressed by education alone," she said.
Thusi said her department had engaged various interested parties, including the police, to curb violence in schools.
"Initiatives undertaken by the department include linking schools with police stations and the establishment of youth desks," she said.
The department had also recruited 2890 security guards who had been deployed at schools.
The national Department of Education had started the Torch of Peace initiative to urge parents to speak up against violence in schools.
