jub jub crash kills 4 pupils

CONTROVERSIAL hip-hop singer Jub Jub has been involved in a car crash that has left four school pupils dead and three critically injured.

Jub Jub - real name Molemo Maarohanye - was allegedly drag racing with a friend in their Mini Coopers in Protea North in Soweto when the accident happened.

Inspector Kay Makhubele said Jub Jub and his friend were allegedly racing along Mdlalose Street between Protea Glen and Protea North at about 4pm yesterday when they collided with another vehicle.

"Their cars veered off the road and hit seven pupils who were walking on the pavement. Four of them died at the scene while the other three suffered multiple body injuries," Makhubele said.

He said one of the cars caught fire but firefighters managed to extinguish it. The injured pupils were taken to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

Makhubele said Jub Jub and his friend were not seriously injured.

"They were arrested and will be charged with culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving," Makhubele said.

Johannesburg Emergency Management Services spokesperson Percy Morokane said three of the dead were pupils from Jules High School in Johannesburg central while the other was from Almond High School in Protea North.

Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Inspector Edna Mamonyane said two Mini Coopers were racing in Protea.

"It is a two-way street and one of the cars drove into oncoming traffic," Mamonyane said.

"When a car came from the other direction, the driver tried to swerve back into the right lane and crashed into the Mini he was allegedly racing against.

"They both drove onto the pavement and mowed down the four young boys who were still in school uniform," Mamonyane said.
