KHARTOUM - Doctors are still trying to establish the cause of death of a Nigerian football player who collapsed on the pitch while playing for his Sudanese club on Saturday.
Al-Merreikh Omdurman striker Endurance Idahor, 25, had penetrated the opposing penalty area in the 13th minute when he appeared to be hit by an elbow before colliding with one of his teammates, state television showed. Idahor collapsed and lay motionless before being stretchered off.
He is believed to have died on the way to the hospital.
The referee immediately stopped Saturday's home game in Omdurman, twin city of the Sudanese capital Khartoum, against rivals Amal from northern Atbara. - Sapa-AFP
