Aces pin hopes on play-offs

MPUMALANGA Black Aces coach Savvacharges Agiomamitis is a relieved man.

MPUMALANGA Black Aces coach Savvacharges Agiomamitis is a relieved man.

This after his club drew 1-1 with Ajax Cape Town. Aces need a point to escape relegation from the Absa League. Their point against Ajax at Boland Stadium on Saturday night puts them at the number 15 on the table.

Truthfully Aces are still not safe. Their fate in the lucrative league will be decided in the playoffs. Two teams from the top of both the Inland and Coastal Streams will play against Aces.

"I am very happy that we still got a chance to play in the play-offs and tell my opponents in the First Division that they must be ready," warned Agiomamitis.

Ajax finished the game with their coach Foppe de Haan who was given marching orders by referee Buyile Gqubule in the 34th minute.

That was after Aces were given a penalty. De Haan protested vehemently. He later told Sowetan that it was unfortunate that he lost his temper.

Mpho Maleka was brought down inside the box and Tomrick October made no mistake from the resultant spot kick.

However, the Urban Warriors hit back in the 41st minute through Lance Davids' curling free kick to make the score 1-1.
