Managers come under fire

AUTHORITIES in the troubled ANC-led uMsunduzi municipality in Pietermaritzburg have vowed to take disciplinary action against managers over the collapse of service delivery and the ongoing strike.

Disciplinary action will also be taken against chief financial officer and municipal manager Rob Haswell.

The managers have been accused of taking unfavourable decisions for the council.

The decisions are said to have resulted in service delivery grinding to a halt.

Mayor Zanele Hlatshwayo has laid the blame on the managers, including Haswell, who is on extended sick leave until the end of the month.

Hlatshwayo said the problems in the municipality were the result of incompetent administration staff led by Haswell as accounting officer.

She said it was not the responsibility of councillors to communicate with workers but that of management.
