Looking for that special woman

THE nominations for the prestigious Checkers Women of the Year Award will open soon.

On Monday the Shoprite Group announced that it will once again honour South Africa's outstanding women and the best one among them will receive the new Shoprite Checkers Women of the Year Award.

Shoprite Group group director Brian Weyers says the new award follows the Shoprite Checkers-SABC2 Woman of the Year Award.

He says the new award will honour "exceptional and visionary women who have had achievements in their own fields have shown the determination and foresight to make an impact on the future of fellow South Africans".

He asks South Africans to participate by nominating the nation's heroines. The categories are: Health, Caregivers; Educators; Corner shop to big business makers; Good neighbours and Youth movers.

Weyers says the categories of the new award have been selected carefully to reflect some of the social and economic issues that will impact positively on the future of the country.

"Through this award we want to focus the attention of our people on finding solutions to those critical matters affecting our future," he says.

"The winners will be awarded individually with prize money but we will also give R100000 towards the work they do for a better future."

The Shoprite Checkers Women of the Year Award will also honour a South African who during her or his lifetime has inspired generations.

The Lifetime Achiever will receive R100000 to donate to a cause the recipient believes will better the lives of South Africans.

The closing date for nominations is April 30.

To nominate , simply pick up an entry form from at a Shoprite or Checkers store . Forms can also be downloaded from the official website www.womenoftheyear.co.za or by emailing womenoftheyear @ shoprite.co.za or calling 021-980-285 or 021-980-1570.

The award culminates in a spectacular gala evening in July at Emperors Palace, Gauteng, to announce the winners.

The event will be broadcast during prime time on August 9 on M-Net.
