Maurice Paige plays cheeky, selfish and outspoken Calvin Xavier in the SABC3 soapie Isidingo .
Off camera, though, he is a very shy and laid-back person. Though he tries hard to keep a low profile, Paige is no pushover. He is among a new crop of actors already making waves.
The 27-year-old, who seduces female audiences every evening with his charming looks, has already won the hearts of thousands of Isidingo's viewers.
The character he plays in Isidingo started out as a small role but has now grown to one of the soapie's most prominent.
In defining his character, Paige says: "Calvin comes from Cape Town and grew up without his father. He came to Jozi looking for his father and answers many questions about his life."
Since his introduction the actor has blended easily into the soapie. He is always rubbing people up the wrong way. His selfishness at times annoys many people, including his father Frank (Kevin Smith) and girlfriend Jessica (Kate Tilley).
Paige, who was born on the Cape Flats, spent most of his childhood and teenage years with his great-grandmother on a small farm in Heidelberg. Though he is now a celebrity he still does not regard himself as a star.
"As far as I am concerned I am still the same old Maurice. I will never allow fame to go to my head because that will attract unnecessary pressure. Once you tell yourself you are a celebrity you have to maintain it," he says.
