"I want to set the new record here at home," said Ramolefi, who is one of the big names who will invade Potchefstroom tomorrow for the third leg of the Yellow Pages Series.
His current South African record stands at 8mins:11,63secs and was set in Monaco last year.
Ramolefi, a law student at the University of Johannesburg, qualified for the Commonwealth Games in Durban last Friday after winning his event in 8:25.
That was the first 2010 Yellow Pages meet for Ramolefi, who won a bronze medal at the 2005 World Student Games in Turkey in the 3000m steeplechase.
He will compete in the 800m tomorrow where he will come up against the likes of Mbulaeni Mulaudzi and Samson Ngoepe.
"The race in Durban went very well and I'm happy to have qualified so early. I'm no longer worried about chasing the qualifying time anymore," said Ramolefi yesterday.
"The next challenge for me now is to better my 3000m steeplechase national record and I'm hoping it will happen in the next three or four weeks. I still have the South African national championships in Durban next weekend. The incentives this year are good and will inspire us athletes to go for good times."
