There will also be road closures on routes leading to the stadiums. Instead, courtesy of the park-and-ride service, fans with match tickets can leave their vehicles at one of several locations for up to four hours before kickoff.
You can catch a free shuttle taxi or bus to and from stadiums across the country. This eliminates traffic congestion around the venues and saves fans money.
In Gauteng there are four park-and-ride facilities to Soccer City throughout the 2010 Fifa World Cup tournament. These are:
lWits University (Wits west campus).
l Bezuidenhout Valley Park.
l The Coca-Cola Dome at Northgate Mall.
l Nasrec Expo Centre (Entrances 4 and 5).
In addition, the City of Johannesburg will lay out Metrobuses and taxis (Gauride) to ferry passengers to and from venues. Rea Vaya buses will also be used on the Soweto Highway route to get fans to Soccer City.
For fans arriving in public taxis and buses, a road transport hub along Landbou Road, Nasrec is being built to be utilised as a drop-off and pick-up zone. The transport hub will accommodate all these modes of transport at the southwest end of the pedestrian promenade.
A bridge has been built from the transport hub over the road and railway tracks on to the boulevard of Soccer City.
Nasrec station has received an extreme make-over and will now service trains bringing spectators to Soccer City. Situated to the north, parallel to Landbou Road, the Nasrec Station is a fully functional railway station for the soccer showpiece.
The station will serve future industrial, commercial and residential developments planned for the area after the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
