dissolve group: magwaza-msibi

IFP national chairperson Zanele Magwaza-Msibi has called for the disbandment of a group calling itself "Friends of VZ kaMagwaza-Msibi".

IFP national chairperson Zanele Magwaza-Msibi has called for the disbandment of a group calling itself "Friends of VZ kaMagwaza-Msibi".

But the group, formed after the male-dominated national council resolved to remove her from the Zululand district mayoral post, refused to back down.

Yesterday the group snubbed the IFP leadership by failing to appear at the party's Durban head office.

Chairperson, Thokozani Zulu confirmed that they had been called to appear before the leadership.

"We acknowledged receipt of the letter and informed them we would only attend if Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi was present," Zulu said.

He said they also asked for the meeting to be held in a stadium because a boardroom would not be large enough to accommodate them all.

"There are more than 5000 people who are members, so calling us to a boardroom would be a recipe for disaster. We are fighting against her ill-treatment," he said.

Magwaza-Msibi has distanced herself from the group.

"I want to clear up any misconception or rumours that I am linked in any way to a group calling themselves 'the Friends of VZ kaMagwaza-Msibi'," she said.

"I am not a member of this group. It is often said one cannot have too many friends, which I suppose is true. But in an instance where your name is used without your permission to promote behaviour contrary to your own belief system, I don't call that friendship."

She said she was very concerned about some members of the group allegedly having prevented senior IFP officials from performing their duties.

"How dare anyone use my name to insult the president of the IFP and still claim to be a friend of mine. This has got to stop. Right now," she said.
